Lachung is a remote hill station, located in North Sikkim, near the Tibet Border. The place is situated at 125 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 9600 feet, at the confluence of Lachen and Lachung Rivers. Surrounded by snow capped mountain peaks, sparkling streams and apple orchards, Lachung is a dream honeymoon destination. This small riverside village offers stunning views of the Himalayas and offers perfect respite from the crowds that you find at the popular hill stations. Places to Visit in Lachung

Lachung will mesmerize you with its extraordinary natural beauty; the stunning landscapes of this region will leave you searching for words. Lachung Monastery, located at the confluence of the Lachen River and Lachung River amidst apple orchards, is the local attraction here. The monastery was built in 1880 and belongs to the Nyingma school of Buddhism. A handicraft centre is also located near the monastery from where you can buy exquisitely woven blankets and rugs. Located at 18 km from Lachung is the Phuni Valley. It is a very popular skiing destination.

Lachung acts as a base town for excursions to Yumthang Valley and Yumesamdong Zero Point. Yumthang Valley, also known as ‘Valley of Flowers’ is a grazing pasture surrounded by the mountains. The Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which is famous for having over 40 varieties of Rhododendrons, also falls in the Yumthang Valley. The valley is located at a distance of 24 km from Lachung, at an altitude of 11800 ft, and is closed between December and March due to heavy snowfall. Another attraction of Yumthang Valley is that you can see yak grazing on the pastures. Yumesamdong, located at an altitude of 15300 feet is end of Yumthang Valley and there is no motorable road beyond this point. It is also known as Zero Point and is located at just 4 km from China border. The place is known for its exotic splendor.

The picturesque village of Lachen is located at an hour’s drive from Lachung. Lachen is known for the stunning views it offers and acts as a gateway for trips to Gurudongmar LakeTso Lhamo Lake and Chopta Valley. Gurudongmar Lake, located at 17800 ft, is considered very sacred by Buddhists. Tso Lhamo Lake is located close to India China border, and is believed to be the source of Teesta River. Chopta Valley is famous for the wide variety of flowers that bloom here in the summer season.
