Honeymoon in Pelling

Pelling provides perfect escape for those who want to get away from the hustle bustle of the run-of-the-mill hill stations and enjoy nature at its very best. The lure of the splendid views and picture perfect scenery all around is what attracts people to this small town in West Sikkim, situated at 115 km from Gangtok. Nestled amidst snowcapped peaks and breathtaking vistas, Pelling offers arguably the best views of Kanchenjunga and it’s the closest you can get to the Kanchenjunga while still being ensconced in the civilizations comforts. Pelling is also a trekker’s delight and acts as a base for the more strenuous treks in the region. The whole area is covered with dense alpine vegetation and is perfect for nature walks. Pelling’s picturesque location and serene environment makes it an ideal honeymoon destination.

Things To Do On A Honeymoon In Pelling

Pelling is home to two of the most sacred monasteries: Pemayangtse Monastery and Sanga Choeling Monastery. Pemayangtse Monastery was built in 1705, and belongs to the Nyingma-pa sect. The name Pemayangtse literally means ‘Perfect Sublime Lotus’. The monastery houses a rich collection of wall painting and sculptures. Sanga Choeling Monastery, built in 1697, is the second oldest monastery in Sikkim. Located on top of a hill, the monastery can be reached only by foot and offers great views of Mt. Kanchenjunga.

While climbing down from the Pemayangtse Monastery take a small detour to the justify and walk for 10 minutes to reach Rabdentse Ruins. The Rabdentse was the royal capital of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814. Though the ruins don’t give a glimpse of the glory of the past and consist of chunky wall stubs with a few inset inscription stones, they reward you with fabulous views of the mountain ranges.

Khecheopalri Lake, located 34 km from Pelling town, is much revered by the Buddhists. The lake is nestled amidst the sacred Khechoedpaldri hills and it is believed that birds ensure that not even a single leaf floats on the lake surface. There are many legends associated with the lake and the lake is famous as a “wish fulfilling lake”. People also go on trek from Pelling to Khecheopalri Lake.

Kanchenjunga Waterfall, located 28 km from Pelling, on the way to Yuksom, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Sikkim. It is an all weather waterfall. Changey Waterfall, located 10 km from Pelling, is another waterfall that you can visit in this region.

Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, is located 35 km from Pelling. It is a picturesque village, nestled in a valley, with great views of Mt. Kabru. Take a 45 minute trek to Dubdi Monastery, located on the top of a hill. Built in 1701, it is one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim and the trek passes through dense forests, which are home to some of the rare species of birds.
